About Me
My name is Kari Karp.
I am a native of Colorado, have lived in Tennessee, and now live in California.
I started my career primarily seeing couples, and am passionate about
helping people have healthier relationships.
I also love working with individual clients doing relational work and trauma work.
I gained advanced training in trauma therapy in 2021.
Another passion I have is teaching - I offer group therapy and classes for people
who prefer to learn about mental health and relationships in a
class format rather than in traditional therapy.
Being a therapist is my third career, and I finally found what I love to do most - there is nothing better to me than seeing people change. I am full of hope for you.

Professional Philosophy
My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, honest, and grounded in evidence-based practice.
We know from research that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful treatment. I strive to create an environment where clients feel emotionally safe, respected, and accepted. Clients often tell me that I strike a balance between being empathetic while also being direct.
I believe it is my job to listen fully to understand clients’ experiences and struggles – and then work
with clients to develop meaningful goals, learn practical skills, and do the deep work to create
lasting change – while celebrating growth along the way.
I welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities. I value cultural humility and remain
committed to ongoing education, self-reflection, and growth so I can
provide care that is inclusive, affirming and responsive.
I most often see clients who are feeling ‘stuck’ in some way – in relationship, in life, or in pattern of behaviors. I come from a non-judgmental perspective, instead I work with clients to understand
the roots of the negative patterns so that real change can happen. I am passionate about
freedom and helping clients make conscious choices toward something new and better.
Healing is rarely linear, and meaningful change takes time. I invite you to start today.
My Story
I first wanted to be a therapist when I was in high school. While I was growing up,
my family hosted foster children. I remember my foster siblings going to therapy
and coming home in a completely different, more positive headspace.
I wondered at the time what about therapy was so magical.
When I was 18 years old, my grandmother died. This was earth-shattering for me,
as she had lived with my family since I was five years old. The therapy I received after this helped me heal, and I knew that someday I would learn to do this work.
I had two careers before I became a therapist – one in a helping profession, and another in food science. These have blended together well for me now as I love the human/relational part of therapy and also the neuroscience part of therapy.
While now I understand much more of the science behind therapy than I did
as a teenager, I often still feel the magic of it. I love seeing relationships heal
after years of distress, and seeing clients who have struggled
with mental health symptoms for years find freedom.
